The Mindful Christian by Dr. Irene Kraegel is probably the best and most accessible book for the end-user. The Christian Counselor’s guide to Mindfulness listed below is also good but it lives up to its title so if you are not a counselor you might find the level of details is too much for your purpose. This book does not come with a set of audio recordings and it suggests using a set of pre-existing recordings. I suggest you use the audio files on this web site by clicking the menu item labeled “A Christian Mindfulness Course”. The Mark Williams / Danny Penman course listed under the “Free Resources” menu item is also an option.
I found the opening pages of the book to be very useful in that Dr. Kraegel explained that she was feeling sad and having difficult emotions when she had achieved a lot of life goals that many single people tell me are pre-requisites for happiness. She already had a marriage, parenthood and a fulfilling career and yet there were still emotional challenges. The moral of the story is that it makes sense to work on mindfulness and regulating our thoughts/emotions in whatever stage of life we find ourselves. Checking off those boxes will not necessarily bring emotional peace. In fact, if we work on character and mindfulness now it boosts our chances of success when marriage/parenthood/career do happen.
Dr. Kraegel also offers an online course ($99) and in-person sessions from her location in Grand Rapids Michigan. Based on the book my judgment is that either of these would be well worth it. You can read more about these options on this Web page: https://www.themindfulchristian.com/training.html
